Ministry of Education Updates

The Ministry of Education has amended Bill 8 in the School Act, which changes how Distributed Learning courses will be offered throughout the province.  The key changes include:

  • Changing the term ‘distributed learning’ to ‘online learning’
  • All School Districts may only enrol students in online learning classes if they reside within the school district's geographic boundaries (ex. Richmond residents can no longer enrol in online schools outside of the Richmond School District)
  • A select number of Provincial Online Learning Schools (POLS) will become authorized by the Ministry of Education.  These schools will be able to enrol any students from across the province, regardless of where they live.

These changes will be effective as of July 1, 2023.

Below are some resources that may be of value to assist you if you desire for your child to continue with online learning.
