Urban Studies 12

We are excited to expand our course offering to include Urban Studies 12!!!  

Urban Studies 12 explores the development, characteristics, and challenges of cities in both historical and modern contexts. Students will analyze urbanization trends, sustainability, social equity, and urban planning principles. The course emphasizes local case studies, particularly Vancouver and Richmond’s urban landscape, while also examining global cities. Through discussions, projects, and field studies, students will develop a deeper understanding of the complex forces shaping urban life.

Course Objectives:

By the end of this course, students will:

  • Understand the historical and contemporary factors driving urbanization.
  • Analyze key urban planning and design principles.
  • Examine social, economic, and environmental issues in urban settings.
  • Investigate the role of culture, diversity, and governance in city development.
  • Explore innovative and sustainable solutions for urban challenges.
